Flair & Mixology Competition

THE CR&B SHOW MIXES UP A DAZZLING BAR PROGRAM

TORONTO, OCTOBER 24, 2018 - The Canadian Restaurant & Bar Show (CR&B) has an exciting mix of activities planned for those in the bar and beverage sector. Attendees will be treated to some tasty drink samples as they tour the showroom floor, watch top mixologists and flair bartenders go head-to-head in live competitions and hear from knowledgeable professionals on the issues facing the service industry today.

Sure to be a highlight at the Show, the Flair & Mixology competitions — hosted by renowned flair bartender Zack Prohaska — will bring together some of Canada’s top bartenders as they put their skills to the test for cash prizes and the chance to compete in the final round. Representing our esteemed panel of judges are:

  • Andre Scherbina, master bartender and co-creator of the delicious Founders Original Old Fashioned;

  • Kristof Vandenabeele, a European flair bartending champion hailing from Belgium who’s known for his delicious mixes and delivering the impossible;

  • Derrick Turner Jr., star of TV’s “Bar Rescue” and famed New York City mixologist;

  • Rob Berry, a beloved senior instructor at Bartending School of Ontario and George Brown College.

In addition, the “What’s Next for the Bar and Beverage Industry” roundtable discussion is a must-see for all industry professionals. Led by Nightclub & Bar Show director Jeremiah Batucan, talks will address the key points of NC&B’s Bar and Beverage Report and shed some light on data-driven decision-making, the role of delivery, new-school marketing tactics and other trends shaping the industry. Afterwards, an impressive group of panelists — including Nick Nemeth from Boston Pizza and Dave Knight from The Citizen — will offer valuable insight into the state of bar and beverage service. TORONTO, OCTOBER 22, 2018 - The Canadian Restaurant & Bar Show (CR&B) is serving up a delectable menu of cooking demos and education sessions aimed at aspiring chefs, restaurant owners and everyone in between.

With cannabis now legal in Canada and locally-sourced foods a driving consideration for cooks and consumers alike, times have changed, and the culinary scene is budding with exciting opportunities that reflect this turning point in our history. Attendees at the show will be treated to a variety of cooking demos and education sessions designed to cover all the latest trends and movements as we forge ahead into an exciting new era.

Some highlights of our must-see cooking demos and seminars include:

  • Culinary School Roundtable, featuring Chef Michael Allemeier of the School of Hospitality and Tourism at SAIT; Chef Craig Youdale, Dean of the Canadian Food and Wine Institute at Niagara College; and Chef Rudi Fischbacher, Acting Dean of the School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism at Humber College. Come hear from some of Canada’s leading instructors about what it takes to excel in foodservice today, the current state of culinary education (including Niagara College’s trailblazing cannabis-based curricula) and the essential role that youth play in the hospitality industry.

  • The Sysco Provincial Culinary Challenge, in which aspiring chefs go head-to-head in a live cook-off using supplied ingredients, their imaginations and unique cooking expertise.

  • Culinary Stage Demos, featuring a host of renowned chefs as they deliver step-by-step cooking demonstrations on the main cooking stage. Among the presenters are U.S.-based chef, educator and strategic planner Bonnie Moore; Calgary’s celebrated Kerry Bennett; McMaster University’s Chef Paul Hoag, and Little Back Dog Catering’s Kendra Smith.

  • Butchery Demos, providing tips and insights into the process of buying, preserving and storing whole animals from some of Canada’s leading butchers. Peter Baarda, Owner at J&G Quality Meats Ltd.; Brent Herrington, Owner at Herrington’s Quality Butchers; and Nicholas Matusiak, Head Butcher at Halenda’s in Oshawa are all primed to show off their impressive knowledge and techniques.

In addition, attendees can find out what it takes to become a Certified Master Chef, as three esteemed veterans — Chef Michael Allemeier, Chef Oliver Li and Chef Shawn Whalen — share their personal stories and detail the years of hard work they committed toward earning the highest accreditation in the Canadian culinary field.

CR&B SHOW ANNOUNCES STELLAR EDUCATION PROGRAM

TORONTO, OCTOBER 18, 2018 - The Canadian Restaurant & Bar Show (CR&B) is excited to announce its confirmed lineup of must-see education sessions, beginning 12 p.m., Sunday October 28th. Aimed at a diverse range of foodservice and beverage professionals, each session will be led by qualified food and bar experts covering a gamut of pressing issues impacting business today. Show delegates are invited—and encouraged!—to attend as many of these valuable sessions as their schedules will allow.

Among the confirmed sessions and speakers are:

  • “Scaling Up” with Grant Van Gameren, Janet Zuccarini and Jason Cassis – a session addressing the challenges and opportunities of going from a single restaurant to several;

  • “How Today's Technology Impacts the Restaurant Space” – a must-see session featuring participants from UberEats, 7shifts, Lightspeed POS and Heritage Parts;

  • “Local Food and the Restaurant Industry” – a session offering timely insights from an esteemed panel of experts, including Darcy McDonnell, Owner/Operator at Farmhouse Tavern;

  • “Bar Roundtable: What’s Next for Bar and Beverage Service?” – a discussion looking ahead at the trends and issues affecting the bar and beverage industry, led by Nightclub & Bar Media Group’s Jeremiah Batucan.

TORONTO, October 15, 2018 —The Canadian Restaurant & Bar Show (CR&B) runs October 28th and 29th at the International Centre in Mississauga, and what a show it will be!

 

Among the prestigious lineup of confirmed presenters, the CR&B Show is thrilled to announce an impressive group of culinary professionals from The International Association of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs (WCR) who will be joining forces to share their passion, inspirational stories, industry insights, and even a few coveted trade secrets.

 

WCR speakers include: NYC-based Amanda Cohen, Iron Chef personality, leader of the vegetable-forward movement and owner of the highly-acclaimed Dirt Candy restaurant; Zena Polin, co-owner, pastry chef and lead bartender at the Daily Dish; and Kristen Lee-Charlson, executive director of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs.

 

Representing Canada’s flourishing cooking scene, Amy Turner, owner of the renowned Donna Mac restaurant in Calgary; Chopped Canada’s 2014 winner Shelley Robinson; co-owner of Little Black Dog Catering Kendra Smith; and WinSport’s own Liana Robberecht whose appearances on regular morning television Calgarians have come to adore, are only a handful of the inspiring chefs whose contributions are greatly anticipated.
